MEPC NEWS LETTER

The wait is over and we are now enjoying 7 designated courts, and 3 that can have nets set up, at Forest Park. Since opening in late August, the courts have been in constant use and enjoyed by all levels of players.  We are excited to have the project finished when the city finalizes the lighting and we can play after dark! Can’t wait for those cold crisp nights on the courts playing under the lights.  In other news we have returned to Forest Park for our Wednesday and Thursday open play that starts at noon. There will be beginner play from noon-1:30 with drills and play. The beginners only take up 2 or 3 courts so now with all the new courts all are welcome to get an early start and come at noon. We recently added a MEPC Rookie WhatsApp site. Beginners can scan the QR code on our website to join and start texting other beginners to play.  Don’t forget we also have the MEPC Pickleball pantry on our WhatsApp site where you can post used or new gear to sell.

Our 7 week summer mini-series was a huge success. Each teacher brought their experience and expertise to teach different parts of the game.   A big thank you to our clinic teachers; Allen Gwo, Jody Pries, Tonya Major, Kyle Quintos, Laura Pelton, Dena Quigley and Rick Bomar.

The board meets once a month to plan the activities for the club. We are just wrapping up our once-a-month tournament season. There has been lots of competitive play this year at all our tournaments. We will return in the spring and offer more tournaments and more fun to go with it!  More to come!!

In other news Stacy Lawrence decided it was time to step down as president of MEPC. Thankfully, she has agreed to stay on the board in another capacity. We would so miss her witty announcements and knowledge of how to best serve our wonderful community of members.  Nobody can really fill Stacy’s shoes, but as vice president Merry Seely was honored to be appointed as the new president.  The board is also excited to welcome a new member to the board.  Even though he is a busy guy with a full-time job, and a big commute, we are happy that Pete Maerz agreed to join us.  You might recognize Pete as one of the people who always is helping when needed, and especially at tournament time.  He has already proven to be a valuable member of the board since joining in September.

OUR TURF

A reminder when playing outside and the nets get wet, please dry them out before returning them to their lock box.  This ensures longer lasting nets and happier pickleball players.  We are bringing in some new Selkirk balls that can handle being smashed in the cold a little better than the Franklin balls.  Also in the boxes will be some Franklin winter playballs.  So picky ballers beware.....
