Sparkler Spectacular (Poster (US)).jpg

Do we have an exciting year shaping up!  We are planning tournaments April 26, May 10, May 17 and May 24.  June 14th is flag day.  What do you do on flag day?  You plan a pickleball tournament, of course.  July 5th we will pickle patriotically.  August 2 we tourney in the heat.  Sept 13 is the Lighthouse festival in Mukilteo and believe you me we will be up the road at Olympic View Middle School slugging it out with baseline drives and kitchen line dinks for fairly lame medals.

During our annual Club Members Meeting/BBQ at Forest Park, some board members got shuffled around and Allison Mead reminded us of our last years accomplishments.  Stacy Lawrence is now our Club President!  Merry Seely is now our Vice President, and Mary Cunningham is now our Secretary.  I am now going to blow you away with our last years accomplishments:

  • Wednesdays in the Park & Bonus Thursdays

  • Summer Women's Cross Club League

  •  Monthly Round Robins and Club play opportunities

  • The infamous Paddle Battles

  • Coordinated Volli Play

  • Monthly Skills and Drills

  • Summer BYON weekly play at Evergreen Middle School

  • Donated $930 to the Mukilteo and Everett Food Banks

  • Continued work with the City on construction of the Pickleball Courts at Forest Park (set to break ground this winter)

  • Court Time with William Taft to assist in intermediate to up their game

  • Celebrated our 500th member

  • Maintain two club lock boxes at Forest Park and Olympic View Middle School

  • Held two potluck socials at Forest Park

  • Did not contribute to inflation by keeping our membership fee @ $25 and $10 per Round Robin

  • Started a Host program to assist with beginner play

Skills and Drills at Forest Park will pick back up April 3 and continue every first Thursday of the month with Allison Mead and Pickleball Rick Bomar laying down the knowledge.  Potluck in the Park will be back July 9th with BBQing and Pickling up at Forest Park.  Starting June 23rd, we will switch Monday's BYON (Bring your own Net) at Evergreen Middle School to "Manic Mondays" at Olympic Middle School from 4:00 to dusk where we have a box full of nets and balls.

We are also in talks with several Professionals to lead Clinics like Susannah Barr.  Do you think I forgot Matt Arnold's Paddle Battles?  Well they will be kicking off in May and crushing their way through announced Saturdays in the summer.  Check out the photo gallery for most recent Paddle Battle pics.

We will be hosting "The Game Within the Game" clinic with Colby and Ginger Haley Bishop.  With a DUPR rating of 5.8 Colby Bishop is a competitive open/pro player with multiple gold medal and top finishes in events such as the MLP Minor League (DUPR 20), Ranch Pro League, and multiple others.  He has been sponsored by Gearbox and one of the pro players featured in Seattle's "Challenge the Pro" event.  Colby brings energy, expertise, and a love of strategy to every clinic session.  Colby will be assisted by Ginger Haley Bishop, with a DUPR rating of 5+ and multiple medals highlighting a distinguished level of experience, including sponsorship.  More importantly, Ginger adds tons of fun to the court experience.  Two clinics offered: 4:00-6:00pm & 6:30-8:30pm.  $25 per player - 16 players per clinic.  Intermediate to advanced level players.  Although not required, this is a good clinic to take with a partner or someone you enjoy on the court.

A reminder when playing outside and the nets get wet, please dry them out before returning them to their lock box.  This ensures longer lasting nets and happier pickleball players.  We are bringing in some new Selkirk balls that can handle being smashed in the cold a little better than the Franklin balls.  Also in the boxes will be some Franklin winter playballs.  So picky ballers beware.....

Don't know quite how those nets get back into the bags?  Follow Pickleball Rick's easy step by step directions to a successful rebagging of nets

Check out our new Logo Wear page.  We have partnered up with Lasting Impressions for all of our swag including shirts, hoodies, and bottles.

The Paddle Battles and Volli sign ups use Scoreholio for scoring.  Download and familiarize yourself with the Scoreholio app.  Create a free account and look for tournaments in your area.  From that list you will see MEPC's latest offerings.  Most of the time, there are multiple levels and a waitlist.  Sign up appropriately and don't forget to have your partner signup as well!

FOREST PARK CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE UPDATE

Project will result in seven dedicated Pickleball courts, and three striped shared use courts.  The seven dedicated courts will be in the area of the existing tennis court and the horseshoe pits.

Timeline (updated May 2025)

  • Start of construction has been tentatively delayed until September/Fall 2025.

  • The City completed a contract with the state for the $345,000 in funding from the state legislature that MEPC worked with the City to get.

  • The City has applied for 2 grants to help with project costs.   The reason construction is delayed until September 2025 is that these grants do not allow any reimbursements for costs spent before a grant contract is executed. These grant contracts are not distributed until July 2025.

  • The permitting process is underway now and the project will be going out to bid later this month (May).

  • Kimberly Moore, Asst. Parks Director said, “Thanks to your group for your ongoing input and patience.”
