MEPC PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Our club continues to grow and as it does the skill levels of our members continues to evolve. We can’t help but notice that Wednesday afternoons at Forest Park is an awesome time for upper level players to find great competition and those players are wonderful about welcoming intermediate-level players seeking to improve their game. But also we cannot help but notice that those play conditions aren’t really ideal for lower level players. Please know that we are mindful of the evolution of our growth and your board is constantly seeking opportunities for all levels to have fun, social court time. One way we have addressed the opportunity is to have nets and balls available at two locations and a WhatsApp site to help facilitate setting up play groups. We are hopeful that the increased number of courts at Forest Park will help us with this. Watch for a survey in the future giving you an opportunity to voice what you want from our club.
We still have a couple of paddle battles, maybe more, and two remaining tournaments before weather conditions become too iffy. Fingers crossed that we still have multiple Wednesday and Thursdays in the park throughout winter. Matt is negotiating with Volli for some court opportunities there. Stay tuned for more on that.
And speaking of the size of our club, as we continue to grow let’s remember to respect each other and the use of personal information available to us. Members’ information should not be utilized in any way outside of pickleball or unless you have permission from that member to use it otherwise.
Sadly, Rudy is going off the board as his firefighting responsibilities have increased. So, maybe you would like to do more than answer a survey and be willing to actually make things happen. Please speak with any board member if you have questions about being a working part of this wonderful organization of people. If you do decide that you would like to run for the vacant board position, please email the club at mukilteoeverettpb@gmail.com.
In closing, thank you all for making this club the best in the county (if not the state and nation). Just a few weeks ago we celebrated having 500 members. Currently, we are at 540 members and growing daily. It is because of each and every one of you that pickleball is going strong in the Mukilteo Everett community. Paddles up!
Allison Mead
Northwest Apple Pickle Picking Challenge was awesome. So many great people, so much great play, and so many APPLES!! Special thanks to Stacy and MEPC board for making it happen. Pictures in the PHOTO GALLERY. The Womens Cross Club League was a HUGE success,. Special thanks to Nancy Smith and Leslie Nix for heading it up. Check out pics in the photo gallery. The Cross Club League will be happening again next year so we look forward to sign ups in the spring. Pickleball 101 with Allison Mead will probably not take place till the spring. People can still text her if interested at that time. We are wrapping up summer play and MEPC will be doing a test run for 4 Tuesdays in November at VOLLI in Marysville. See flyer on home page. A reminder when playing outside and the nets get wet, please dry them out before returning them to their lock box. This ensures longer lasting nets and happier pickleball players. We are bringing in some new Selkirk balls that can handle being smashed in the cold a little better than the Franklin balls. Also in the boxes will be some Franklin winter playballs. So picky ballers beware.....
Check out our new Logo Wear page. We have partnered up with Lasting Impressions for all of our swag including shirts, hoodies, and bottles.
William Taft, AKA Sir William Taft, AKA Sir Snacks, will be offering singles pickleball clinic. William is a national champion and one of the founders of competitive pickleball. Session will include drills and strategies to help improve your game: Serving: Serve deep and with good pace, and vary the direction. Serve from near the centerline to make it easier to return most shots. Returning: Keep returns deep and to the corners. Try to force your opponent to use their backhand, which is usually weaker. Positioning: Stay near the back third of the court and face your opponent. Move left or right as your opponent does, but try to stay close to the centerline. Passing: Learn to hit a good passing shot with downward spin or trajectory. Make contact out front and get low to see the bottom half of the ball. Creating patterns: After serving, pick a spot and pay attention to the results. Pressure: Put pressure on your opponent to make mistakes, especially toward the end of the game. Skinny singles: Play on half the court, either down the line or cross court. This variation is less demanding on the players' fitness. $5 for MEPC members only. To sign up, text Allison Mead @ (425) 359-9552. Once we get 8 people will set a time, date, and location.
Are you new to the sport of pickleball? Want to learn what is so great about the game? MEPC offers a free clinic to beginners. Text Allison Mead at 425 359 9552 to let her know you are interested in being in a Pickleball 101 clinic. When there is enough interest, she will offer a beginner clinic.

The Halloween themed tournament "PICKLEJUICE", which was postponed already twice, has now evolved into our food drive tournament with halloween undertones . . . . . Thusly, The Picklejuice Food Drive Tournament is now born. It will take place November 16th, with a reschedule option of November 23rd. All participants that were signed up for the original Picklejuice tourny are prioritized for play in the Picklejuice Food Drive Tourny. Stay tuned, as Stacy will have some sort of registration outline announcement soon.
We have a new Board Member!!! Parker Burns is now on your MEPC Board. Parker was born to lead. He was molded into existence from many past generations of lackluster pickleball players. He is an efficient problem solver and can be seen most Wednesdays in the Park slouched over in his chair drifting in and out of sleep. Give him a nudge, and tell him to do something! He's on the Board now!
FOREST PARK CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE UPDATE
Project will result in seven dedicated Pickleball courts, and three striped shared use courts. The seven dedicated courts will be in the area of the existing tennis court and the horseshoe pits.
Timeline (updated Nov 2024)
-
Start of construction has been tentatively delayed until August 2025.
-
The City expects to complete a contract with the state by the end of 2024 for the $345,000 in funding from the state legislature that MEPC worked with the City to get.
-
The City has applied for 2 grants to help with project costs. The reason construction is delayed until August 2025 is that these grants do not allow any reimbursements for costs spent before a grant contract is executed. These grant contracts are not distributed until July 2025.
-
City Parks staff said the current budget cuts will not affect construction of the courts. The City has allocated funding to this project in case a grant does not come through, but they think that it is the best use of City resources to hold out to see if they get a grant.
-
Kimberly Moore, Asst. Parks Director said, “Thanks to your group for your ongoing input and patience.”
